Banned Books Week

“[I]t’s not just the books under fire now that worry me. It is the books that will never be written. The books that will never be read. And all due to the fear of censorship. As always, young readers will be the real losers.”
—Judy Blume
(American Libraries Banned Books Week webpage)

Celebrate your right to read during Banned Books Week. Check out our display of teen books, help Fight for Potter! or go to more great links on intellectual freedom at the Young People's page of ALA.

Happy freedom to read!

Teen events this week

We'll be watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory this Wednesday at 4 pm. Come up to the Teen Room (second floor, by the AV department) for popcorn and drinks and candy, of course. Register online on our calendar. In the meantime, you might want to revisit some of your old friends on the Roald Dahl website. He's the author who wrote the book that started it all. One of my favorite books of his from my childhood is The Twits.

Have you seen the new movie yet? Is it as good as this cult classic? Show up and find out.

Also, we'll be discussing the newest Harry Potter book Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on Thursday night from 6-7 pm in the Teen Room. Are you still in denial as much as I am? Do you have questions that need answers? Or are you just wanting to talk about what happened? Maybe you can fill me in on some things that I've missed, or discuss predictions for the next book yet to be published. I can't wait...
